Features

Before general discussion of the various models and styles it is important to note that all Centrx Kool-Klamps share these high quality characteristics:

  • All bar components are machined from a high strength alloy material.
  • All pressure points in Klamps over 18Kn (4030 lbs) are constructed from hardened materials. This is extremely important in order to maintain a precision rate of force, especially over time or in mobile or applications prone to any vibration.
  • All Klamps have a precision force indicator on the head bar’s topside (the clamp’s most viewable and accessible side) eliminating guesswork and the need for torque wrenches and special tools.
  • All Klamps are fully factory assembled and force tested to save installation time and insure correct assembly.
  • All steel components are constructed from stainless steel or plated high quality alloys for maximum strength and performance.
  • All connecting rod bolt hardware is plated metric Class 8.8 steel.
  • All Klamps employ insulator materials chosen for strength and high dielectric value with substitute options for special or extreme environment conditions.
  • Standard Kool-Klamps are also available from stock in long or extended configurations (currently up to 24” of Working Space Length (or clamping space) with no additional tool-up costs or increased lead time for extended length insulator assemblies.

Custom Configuration

If you would like a specific 3D Kool-Klamp model, a Kool-Klamp drawing or pricing you need to build a Kool-Klamp by following the next 8 simple steps and choosing the designations appropriate to your application (shown in bold (XXX-)):

1) Begin by choosing between our two basic models, the Kool-Klamp Adjustable or the Kool-Klamp Preset:

Kool-Klamp Adjustable (KKL-ADJ-) features an adjustable force indicator that is easily accessible and viewable on the Klamp-bar’s topside. (No need to view the installation assembly from the ends or from the sides through heat sink fins). Simply rotate the dial to the desired indication force setting and then install the Klamp accordingly. No guesswork on the force setting and no torque wrenches or special tools required. Choose this model if you wish to stock ‘one’ Klamp capable of handling a range of differing force requirements from application to application.

Kool-Klamp Preset (KKL-PS-) is furnished with a precision indicator (again easily viewable on the Klamp-bar’s topside) that indicates when the desired factory ‘preset’ force has been obtained in the installation. Choose this more economical mainstay model for ‘production’ assemblies. No guesswork on the force setting and no torque wrenches or special tools required.

2) Select the configuration style. (See drawing). Both models are available off-the-shelf in the following configuration styles: (Custom styles available)

  • (01-) Most commonly used design configuration.
  • (02-) Direct attachment to user’s component.
  • (03-) Additional presser bar on self-aligning center.

3) Select the Klamp’s bolt centers. Both models are available off-the-shelf with the following bolt centers: (Custom centers available)

  • (5500-) 5.50” (139.7mm)
  • (4625-) 4.63” (117.5mm)
  • (3500-) 3.50” (88.9mm)
  • (3125-) 3.12” (79.2mm)
  • (2750-) 2.75” (69.9mm)

4) Verify the force you require is not greater than the capacity of the Klamp you’ve built thus far: (If your force requirement is greater than the capacity of the selected Klamp consider moving up to the next bolt center size –OR– contact us for an increased capacity to meet your needs). (Again, the following relates to ready-to-go stocked Klamps….Klamps with custom or additional forces are easily available)

  • -5500- is capable of a maximum 44Kn (9850 lbs)
  • -4625- is capable of a maximum 33Kn (7390 lbs)
  • -4000- is capable of a maximum 33Kn (7390 lbs)
  • -3500- is capable of a maximum 22Kn (4920 lbs)
  • -3125- is capable of a maximum 18Kn (4030 lbs)
  • -2750- is capable of a maximum 18Kn (4030 lbs)

As example your Klamp part number may look like this so far:

KKL-PS-03-5500-44- Where the last 2 digits correspond with the maximum kN rating for the specified bolt center when specifying off-the-shelf Klamps. If a capacity is required beyond the above ratings for our stock Klamps substitute your custom (kN) requirements such as:

KKL-PS-03-5500-66- (for 66 kN maximum).

5) Specify your desired Working Space Length (a) (see drawing) in two-place decimal inches. The Working Height is the total clamp distance you require in order to sandwich or mount the devices and components in your application. For example:

KKL-PS-03-5500-44-10.06- (for 10.06” of Working Space Length).

6) Specify your desired Insulation length (b) (see drawing) in two-place decimal inches. The Insulation Height is always shorter than the Working Height and represents the distance the connecting bolt rods should be insulated. If you are unsure of this dimension it is likely safe to specify a distance of 0.5” less than the desired Working Height. For example:

KKL-PS-03-5500-44-10.06-9.56- (for 9.56” of Insulation Length).

7) If you are specifying a Preset model you must specify the force (f) in kN you require us to factory precision preset at. (If you are using an Adjustable model skip this step and proceed to # 8). For example:

KKL-PS-03-5500-44-10.06-9.06-38- (for a precision factory preset force of 38 kN (8510 lbs).
-or-
KKL-ADJ-03-5500-44-10.06-9.06- (for an adjustable model with no factory preset force).

8) Finally select the connecting rod bolt insulation material desired: (P) Phenolic is an excellent insulator material with over 500 volts/mil dielectric strength and capable of good temperature rise (285 degrees F). It is economical and extremely strong. (In fact a primary use for phenolic is gear making)! Or choose your insulator from our alternate insulator materials. (Note: Some alternate materials may increase lead time).

Congratulations! In most cases, if you submit a completed Kool-Klamp part number as exampled above; we can ship your ‘ready-to-install’ within 24 hours!
